David Taylor BVMS, FRCVS, FZS - Consulting Partner

Image of David TaylorDavid has worked with zoo and wild animals since 1957, consulting on some of the rarest species on earth, including giant pandas and komodo dragons. He is a specialist in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, and is world renowned as an expert in marine mammal medicine.

David is based in Hertfordshire, in the south of England.



Andrew Greenwood MA, VetMB, FIBiol, DipECAMS, FRCVS - Partner

Andrew joined David Taylor as a partner in 1973 and, in 1976, they together formed the International Zoo Veterinary Group. An internationally recognised expert in avian diseases and marine Image of Andrew Greenwood and dolphinmammal care, he is a Specialist in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Currently, Andrew acts as veterinary advisor to various conservation projects in Mauritius, and to the World Parrot Trust. He is a Council member of the Zoological Society of London, and of Twycross Zoo and has served on the Council of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. Andrew is a Trustee of the Wildlife Information Network and the World Parrot Trust and is a member of the government-appointed Zoos Forum.

Andrew is based in Yorkshire, in the North of England.



John Lewis MA, VetMB, PhD, MRCVS - PartnerImage of John Lewis and elephant

John joined the practice in 1985. He received his Doctorate for work in human oncology. With wide experience in primatology, advanced techniques of anaesthesia, and wildlife medicine, he is recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a Specialist in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine. John is a Trustee of AMUR, the Anglo-Russian charity supporting the Amur tiger and leopard, and is a visiting lecturer at the Durrell Institute for Conservation Ecology.

John is based in Kent, in the South of England



Sue Thornton BSc, BVetMed, MRCVS - PartnerImage of Sue Thornton and otter

Sue joined the practice in May 2000, having previously worked as Veterinary Officer at London Zoo and the Marine Mammal Center, California. She is a government appointed Zoo Inspector. Sue became a partner in the practice in 2003. Sue is the Senior Vice President of BVZS until May 2008, and is a veterinary advisor to the EAZA Amphibian and Reptile TAG and the UK HerpTAG.

In addition to her experience with a broad range of species, Sue has a special interest in fish and lower vertebrates, and is consultant vet to a number of aquaria.

Sue is based in Hertfordshire, in the South of England.

A graduate of the Veterinary School of Giessen University, Germany, Johanna was formerly Technical Director of the Madrid Zoo and resident vet at Loro Parque, Tenerife.

With fifteen years spent specialising in avian and reptile medicine, Johanna now runs our first opinion and referrals exotic pet clinic in Bradford, Yorkshire where she also sees animals from some of our zoological collections.

Nic joined the practice in October 2005, having attained his Wild Animal Health Master of Science degree at the Institute of Zoology and Royal Veterinary College.

Nic is the resident veterinarian at Twycross Zoo, one of the most diverse collections of primates in the world. Apes and monkeys comprise much of the caseload. Nic spends the remainder of his time providing veterinary care to other IZVG clients across the UK and abroad.

Nic is based in Warwickshire, in the Midlands, and at home in London.



Mark Stidworthy MA VetMB PhD MRCPath MRCVS - Pathologist

Mark joined the practice in November 2003. Mark has pathology residency training and diagnostic experience at Liverpool and Cambridge Veterinary Schools. He completed his PhD, studying repair in the central nervous system, at Cambridge. Mark is a Member (by examination) of the Royal College of Pathologists, in the specialty of veterinary pathology. Mark is Secretary to the recently formed British Society of Veterinary Pathology.

Mark runs IZVG Pathology, near Leeds in Yorkshire, and can be reached through the head office. He is supported by a technician, graduate biologist Neil Wagstaffe, who has worked part-time for the practice since January 2007.

Research

Penny Cusdin BSc(Hons) MIBiol, VN - Research Assistant

Penny joined the practice in 1998, after obtaining her degree in Zoology from the University of Liverpool and qualifying as a veterinary nurse.

She is responsible for information management, the practice library and for the maintenance of an extensive in-house literature database. In addition to her role as researcher for the clinical team, she has also been responsible for government-appointed research, and has assisted clients with their own research projects.

Penny is the Development Director of veterinary charity Wildlife Vets International.



Nicola Blay BSc(Hons), MSc - Research Assistant

Nicola joined the practice in 2001. After obtaining a degree in Genetics from Nottingham University and an MSc in Applied Ecology and Conservation from the University of East Anglia, Nicola worked at a major bird park as Zoo Education and Research Officer.

Nicola is a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquaria's Education, Communication and Training committee. She currently researches non-veterinary matters for the team, collaborates with clients on education projects and assists small zoos in meeting the legal requirements for Zoo Licensing.

Nicola and Penny run the Zoo and Aquarium Consultancy and can be contacted via the IZVG head office.

Administration

Elizabeth Kelly - Office Manager

Liz joined the practice in 1994, and is Office Manager. She is responsible for the day-to-day running of the IZVG office, deals with ordering and accounts, co-ordinates the vets' schedules and manages the exotic pets clinic.

Christine Bingley - Secretary

Christine joined the practice in May 2001. In addition to her secretarial and administrative duties, Christine is responsible for despatching orders from our Zoovet product range, ordering and distributing medical supplies for our clients, and assists with the management of the exotic pets clinic.
